Happiness Hack

We all have a limit to the amount of time and resources we have in a day, week and month. When we are creating a plan to identify, plan and live our someday life, we need to be as efficient as possible. First, just like a business, we need to get all the options on the table, assess them and then ruthlessly prioritize. Second, once we do so we need to find ways to achieve our goals and fulfill our purpose as efficiently as possible. That is why I encourage the use of Happiness Hacks. This idea came to me from famous life hacker and author of the 4 Hour Work Week, Tim Ferris. If we can find ways to combine both happiness techniques and the core elements of the 7 steps into actions, achieving our purpose becomes easy. My best personal example is my weekly exercise routine + nature + gratitude + service. On a recent Sunday morning I went to my nearby beach early and did my gratitude meditation with my feed grounded in the sand and the sun on my back. Following my meditation I did a 45 minute swim which I do 2 days per week as part of my fitness plan. However, I also bring with me a sack. You see, when I first started this I saw trash on the sea bed. It bothered me so I decided that as part of my own purpose I would pick up the trash I saw. I have since outlined a set of policies I intend to propose to the local body responsible for that beach. So, within a two hour period I am able to be of service, exercise, express gratitude and be in nature. And afterwards, I walked the entire beach smiling at as many strangers as I could. It is three days later as I write this and I still feel the glow of that two hour Happiness Hack.
