Be the Boss of Your Life: Invest in "Thrive"

What is Thrive?
This is a word defined as, “...to prosper, to be successful, develop or grow vigorously, to flourish…,” with origins based on a concept of “grasp” as in an individual’s grasp of something such as life or a skill.
When I think of “Thrive” applied to our lives, it seems like an ideal to which every human can and would want to aspire. I know and speak to very few people who aspire to have an unsuccessful, dull or unfulfilled life. Most will even agree that this kind of achievement won’t “happen” of its own accord; it requires something more.
I am no enemy of sharing levity and good times with family and friends nor of “downtime”. However, when I observe how most invest the majority of their most scarce resources - time, energy and money - it would appear that “Thrive” is far from a true aspiration.
A weekend bash, day at the salon, a few more inches of the TV screen frame, a new iPhone, cable subscription, video game or case of wine, another pair of shoes, earrings or “bling” are things we buy without hesitation and each one may deliver a few moments, perhaps a few hours of momentary pleasure. However, is that going to create “Thrive” in your life?
So what can be done?
Start with a conscious decision. Is “Thrive” an aspiration?
Every smart business leader and Boss knows that there are many options for placing scarce investment resources. Success is only achieved by focusing investments on those things that will produce the desired result. And they know that non-productive investment in “shiny objects” must be abandoned or delayed for the future.
If your answer was “yes, I aspire to ‘Thrive’,” review how you are investing your scarce resources and are they appropriately invested in “Thrive”?
“Be the Boss” of your life. If “Thrive” is your goal, and you don’t want an unremarkable, unsatisfying life, that must be where your investment is placed. Every investment of time, energy and resources must pass through a filter: does it contribute to “thrive” or not? If it is not an investment in knowledge, health, preparation, creating, serving, connection, gratitude, or other things that constitute your definition of “Thrive” it may not qualify.
