Author Jonathan Rauch wrote a book entitled, The Happiness Curve. In it he describes that as a society the level of happiness we experience throughout our lives tends to decline shortly after birth. At the age of about 38 our happiness is near its lowest level and it plateaus at that level for about 20 years beginning to reascend at about 58 years old. Researcher David Blanchflower later validated that this trend applies across cultures and geographies. Some possible explanations for this occurrence include potentially unrealistic expectations we have had upon reaching this age, social comparisons and becoming aware of our mortality. Rauch points out that this dip has less to do with external failures but more to do with internal misalignment of goals and time horizons. This "midlife crisis" period can be jumped by proactively finding purpose, realigning goals and refocusing how to spend the rest of your precious life's times for the rest of your lifetime. This is precisely what www.thegethappinessplan.com does as well as my 1 on 1 online live life coaching.
